3rd Period is reserved for a Reading Period and Advisory. It is 30 minutes per day.
Reading:
Mon, Wed, Thurs, and Friday, students have the opportunity to read quietly and work toward their individual reading goals. Studies show that reading just 20 minutes a day increases academic performance! However, the more students read, the more successful they will be. We encourage students to READ, READ, READ! Time goals are below. Please note that students should also be reading OUTSIDE this reading period AT HOME.
First Trimester Goal: 20 minutes a day at reading level
Second Trimester Goal: 25 minutes a day at reading level
Third Trimester Goal: 30 minutes a day at reading level
Advisory:
Tuesdays are reserved for Advisory. During this class, students will work on social-emotional learning through the Second Step program, which focuses on the specific needs and development of Middle School aged children. We will cover topics such as: self-advocacy, friendship, conflict resolution, and managing emotions.
